There are a number of luxury hotels in Downtown Austin that offer many of the amenities and facilities you normally expect of resorts, but other that offer a twist on the traditional idea. The Four Seasons Austin is set in lovely lush grounds on the shores of Lady Bird Lake and boasts spacious deluxe rooms and suites, gourmet dining and elegant lounges, a full-service spa and fitness center, and a swimming pool. You can walk down to the lakeshore and rent kayaks, and do some cycling and hiking on the trails along the lake. This lovely property is only a few blocks from the Sixth Street Entertainment District. You can’t do better for 5 star resorts in Austin Texas than this property.
The best and most comprehensive Austin golf resort is probably the Barton Creek Resort and Spa (pictured). It is located near the Barton Creek Wilderness Park about four miles south of Lake Austin and about six miles from Downtown Austin. In addition to beautiful grounds and resorts facilities (including an extensive spa, fitness center, and tennis courts), it boasts four championship 18-hole golf courses. There are several fine dining spots, including a poolside café, bars and lounges, and the rooms and suites are luxurious.
The best Austin golf resort that is furthest away from the Downtown Austin area is the Horseshoe Bay Resort, a Marriott property about 60 miles northwest of the city on the shores of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson. This is one of the seven Highland Lakes (that are actually reservoirs) created by a series of dams. The other lakes are Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis, Lake Austin, and Lady Bird Lake. The latter two are actually within the city limits. The Horseshoe Bay Resort boasts all the facilities and amenities expected of a world-class resort, as well as chic boutiques offering great shopping. This is one of the Austin resorts that has a full-service marina on the lake, and it has a fleet of boats available for rent, including water skiing craft, pontoon boats, and fishing boats.
